The National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have clarified that a video circulating on social media showing a woman being violently robbed near the Globe Roundabout in Nairobi is an old clip and does not reflect a recent incident.

The footage, which sparked widespread public anxiety after resurfacing online, captures the moment a female pedestrian was accosted, harassed, and stripped of her handbag and mobile phone by suspected thugs.

In a phone interview, Central Police Station OCPD Patrick Gogo confirmed that investigators tracked the footage and established that the incident occurred in the past, coinciding with a political rally held in the nearby Nyamakima area.

According to OCPD Gogo, a swift probe was launched immediately after the crime originally took place, leading to the successful tracking and arrest of the suspects involved.

DCI detectives also managed to achieve full recovery of the victim's stolen phone and bag during that initial operation.

The police clarification comes amidst heightened sensitivity regarding security in the Central Business District, following recent conversations on social media networks concerning opportunistic crimes in the capital.

Police are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report all criminal activities and criminal elements as soon as such incidents occur for quick police action.
