Veteran football administrator, Nicholas Musonye will remain at the helm of Kenya’s AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) following a quiet but far-reaching restructuring, with confidential sources indicating that the veteran administrator has been retained as chairman.
Sources privy to
the developments reveal that Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein
Mohammed will serve as Musonye’s deputy, maintaining a leadership structure
aimed at blending experience with federation oversight as Kenya pushes forward
with its “Pamoja Bid” alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
The shake-up
has, however, ushered in a key executive change, with Myk Rabar reportedly
removed as CEO. He is set to be replaced by Anthony Inzahuli Lung’aho, who will
take charge as Head of Secretariat and CEO in the reconstituted committee.
The changes are
expected to be gazetted on Tuesday.
Beyond the top
leadership, the restructuring casts a wider net, bringing together a
broad-based steering committee tasked with accelerating preparations ahead of
the 2027 continental showpiece.
Members include Director of Sports Evans
Achoki, FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga, Brigadier Titus Sokobe, Osman Abdi,
Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei, Mary Mwiti, Sports Fund CEO Nuh
Ibrahim, Agnes Kalekye, Peninah Wahome, Douglas Ratemo, Timothy Kilimo, Dr.
Doreen Odhiambo, Lilian Nyawada, Lordvick Aduda, K.K. Mutai, Juma Maulidi
Wahoga, Rebecca Natabo Ekwam, Robert Macharia, Timothy Nabea, Abdalla Yusuf
Ibrahim, Ahmed Qadar Dabar, Gabriel Mghendi, Peter Kamau, Kerubo Momanyi,
Bernard Lagat, Collins Kalee, Caleb Amwayi, Ken Rungu, Dan Shikanda, Charles
Njagi, Thomas Karugu, Evelyn Cheluget, Miriam Chepkoech, Rodgers Chimega, Diana
Injendi Manyengo and Collins Were.
All FKF National
Executive Committee members are also understood to be part of the expanded
structure, a move seen as an attempt to enhance coordination and avoid the
operational gaps witnessed during the CHAN 2024 tournament.
The committee’s
immediate focus will be on fast-tracking infrastructure upgrades ahead of a
crucial Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspection scheduled for August
this year.
Meeting CAF’s
stringent hosting standards remains a top priority as Kenya eyes a successful
tournament in 2027.
Security
planning has equally taken center stage, with the tournament set to coincide
with Kenya’s general election campaigns in August 2027.
Musonye is said to have flagged this as a
critical area requiring early and meticulous coordination.
With time
ticking and expectations rising, Kenya’s reshaped LOC now carries the
responsibility of turning ambition into readiness, even as formal confirmation
of the changes remains under wraps.
