MTRH workers suspend strike after negotiations with management

Workers unions at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret have suspended a planned strike after signing a return-to-work formula with the management.
The hospital staff had announced a two-week strike that was to begin on Tuesday.
Addressing the press at the facility on Monday, Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) regional secretary general Wamalwa Simiyu noted that if their demands are not met, then they will down their tools.
According to MTRH CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa, the facility received over Ksh. 2 billion from SHA, and they still await another Ksh. 1 billion.
Dr. Kirwa added that they have also received Ksh. 4.6 billion for salary support as they await the remaining Ksh. 1.5 billion.
He raised concerns over the increased shortage of health workers, especially nurses, as many seek greener pastures and through natural attrition.
