The Linda Mwananchi movement received a rousing
reception in Western region as thousands lined the roads while Nairobi Senator Edwin
Sifuna staged homecoming parades in Bungoma County.
The movement traversed the county on Sunday where they were welcomed by
frenzied supporter as leaders called on the opposition to rally behind Sifuna’s
2027 presidential bid.
The leaders described Sifuna as the oppositions strongest
bet against President William Ruto,
“If they dish out money you take it. I want to challenge the
united opposition to stand up and say Sifuna tosha,” said Trans Nzoia Governor George
Natembeya.
Echoing his sentiments, Siaya Governor James Orengo said
that President Ruto has lost favor with the Kenyan electorate.
The leaders also hinted at the formation of a new political
party, arguing that ODM had abandoned its original ideals and no longer represented
the aspirations of the opposition
“It is evident that they have sold off our party to William Ruto, now allow us
to look for a different alternative,” said Senator Sifuna.
His Vihiga counterpart Godfrey Osotsi added “and that party will include
everyone including you (supporters)”
The brigade also challenged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries
Commission (IEBC), demanding a transparent and credible 2027 election and
warning that their supporters would remain vigilant to ensure every vote
counts.
Our votes will not be stolen. We will get vehicles and
travel to Nairobi after casting our votes to protect them,” said Embakasi East MP
Babu Owino.
The leaders earlier took their campaign trail to Kiminini,
Kamukuywa, Kimilili and Chwele as they continued to drum up support ahead of
the 2027 polls.
