Residents in Mt Elgon region who use the Kopsiro-Chepyuk road held protests on Tuesday and walked to the KERRA offices in Bungoma to complain about the poor state of the road.

The group claimed that road has been neglected for years.

Led by Richard Naibei, the group said that this is not the first time they have presented their grievances to the KERRA office, adding that the road has been in a dilapidated state since 1999.

He said locals have been struggling to transport produce from their farms and in extreme cases, some expectant mothers have given birth on the road as drivers try to navigate the rough road and don’t make it to health facilities in good time.

They demanded that the local MP, Fred Kapondi,  intervenes and resolves the issue, failing which they will continue to hold protests.
