Mariga calls for dialogue to end Kenyan football disputes

FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga has called for dialogue among football stakeholders to resolve the disputes surrounding the start of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season.

In a statement, Mariga says the continued uncertainty is worrying, particularly with Kenya and its East African neighbours preparing to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

He says clubs need certainty, players need competitive football and the national teams require a stable domestic football structure.

Mariga has urged FKF officials, clubs, players and other football stakeholders to respect the FKF Constitution, court decisions and established dispute-resolution mechanisms.

He says recent court directions have provided clarity on the application of the 2019 FKF Rules and Regulations, including the promotion and relegation play-off.

“The issue before us should not be about who wins and who loses. Kenyan football must win,” Mariga said.

He also called for the necessary administrative and governance structures to be put in place before the league resumes, saying clubs deserve clarity on the competition calendar, rules and management.

With AFCON 2027 fast approaching, Mariga says stakeholders must put the interests of Kenyan football ahead of individual positions and work together to restore stability.
