Police in Kibaita village in Nandi County are investigating an incident in which a married man stabbed his wife to death before taking his own life, following a lover’s quarrel between the pair.

Hanise Juma reportedly committed the offence on Wednesday night after ambushing his wife, Winnie Akusuha, at her family’s residence in Nandi.

Police reports indicate that the couple, who have sired three children together, lived in Nairobi until last weekend when a falling out between them saw Winnie pack her bags and head for Narok alongside her three children.

According to Nandi South police commander Maina Nduriri, Juma however followed his wife to Narok, sneaking into her family home unnoticed on Wednesday night at around 7pm before stabbing Winnie, whom he found in the kitchen making supper, multiple times.

The deceased’s father, Musa Keya, told Citizen Digital that they heard a commotion in the kitchen and went to investigate but the suspect fled as soon as they arrived at the scene.

He added that the deceased had deep stab wounds on the head, face, chest and stomach.

In a surprising twist, Juma’s lifeless body was found a few hundred meters from where he reportedly attacked and killed his wife.

Police suspect that he ingested poison before slitting his throat, dying of excessive bleeding.

Both bodies have been moved to Jumia Hospital morgue in Vihiga pending post-mortem.
