Detectives in Samia Sub-County have launched investigations into the murder of a man who was hacked to death by unknown assailants during a late-night funeral disco session, commonly known as 'Disco matanga', in Funyula Constituency.

According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred after a dispute broke out between the victim and a group of unidentified individuals over a financial disagreement during a fundraising contribution at the event.

The victim sustained deep cut wounds and died at the scene. The attackers fled before police arrived.

The killing has sparked concern among local residents, who are calling for stricter regulation or an outright ban on disco matanga sessions. Community members say the events, which are traditionally held to raise funds for bereaved families, have increasingly become associated with crime, drug abuse and insecurity.

Police processed the scene and moved the body to a local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could aid the investigation to report to the nearest police station.
