Residents of Machakos are set to benefit from expanded employment opportunities following a partnership between local entrepreneur Eric Muli and recruitment platform Joby aimed at connecting young people with verified job openings through a technology-driven platform.

The initiative seeks to tackle youth unemployment by simplifying the recruitment process, improving access to verified vacancies and strengthening connections between employers and skilled job seekers.

Speaking during the launch, Muli said the partnership is designed to bridge the gap between talent and employment opportunities through technology.

"Technology can transform how people access opportunity. Through our partnership with Joby, we are simplifying recruitment, connecting employers with skilled talent and ensuring young people build sustainable careers. When we invest in solutions that bridge the gap between talent and opportunity, we strengthen our communities and unlock economic growth," he said.

The initiative supports the objectives of the Machakos County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2023–2027, which advocates for innovative and market-driven approaches to employment creation. The plan identifies limited economic activity as a major contributor to poverty, affecting 74.4 per cent of working-age adults and 36.7 per cent of young people in the county.

Joby founder Joram Theuri said the collaboration is intended to create a more inclusive and transparent recruitment ecosystem while supporting businesses to access qualified talent.

"Our vision is to build the most trusted recruitment ecosystem where talent and opportunity meet without barriers. Through this collaboration, we are giving employers greater confidence in the talent they hire while enabling young people to access meaningful employment," he said.

Joby provides verified employment opportunities across sectors including the creative industry, hospitality, media and technology. The platform is free for job seekers and allows employers to recruit from a pool of verified candidates.

Under the partnership, verified job opportunities will be published monthly as the platform continues to expand its network of employers across the region.
