Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has said Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna needs more time before running for president.

Speaking in an interview on Citizen TV, Waiguru questioned Sifuna’s ability to convince his allies to support him and his financial capacity to run a campaign.

“Presidency is not an easy thing. Let me give you one example that showed me Sifuna still needs time. When they were deciding on the party to run, his closest allies who hold his hands up, he couldn't convince them to abandon their parties for his,” Waiguru said on Monday.

She said when President William Ruto was still the deputy president, he convinced over 100 members of parliament to support him when he was first running for presidency.

“Today, in the news, if you checked, every other area in this country is covered by an ally of Ruto campaigning everywhere, western, northeastern coasts, everywhere,” Waiguru said.

“Ruto has the money and the machinery. Precisely. So, if you don't have it, what are you doing running for president?” she questioned.

Waiguru said she would not run for president right now because she is sure she would not win over President Ruto.

This was after Sifuna dismissed questions about his experience and financial muscle, expressing confidence that the new political outfit will gain nationwide support.

“For now, I am receiving a lot of pressure from Kenyans to vie for the presidency. People are asking, ‘huyu Sifuna mnaita rais, how will it happen?’ they say I am young and have no money. But I know God’s guidance will lead me. I will be the first one-term senator to become president,” he said.

He said the win will be contributed to mainly by unity among Kenyans and the opposition.
