Nairobi Senator and Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna says he will be on the ballot in 2027 to challenge President William Ruto.

Addressing congregants at at church service in Donholm, Niarobi, Sifuna dismissed questions about his experience and financial muscle, expressing confidence that the new political outfit will gain nationwide support as he calls for opposition unity.

“For now, I am receiving a lot of pressure from Kenyans to vie for the presidency. People are asking, ‘huyu Sifuna mnaita rais, how will it happen?’ they say I am young and have no money. But I know god’s guidance will lead me. I will be the first one-term senator to become president,” he said.

The declaration comes as the egistrar of Political Parties processes a proposed name change of the equitable party to Linda Mwananchi movement.

Sifuna says the new political outfit will challenge the established political order despite the limited time remaining before the election.

“I was forcefully removed from ODM, but god is still making a way for me. I am now the party leader of Linda Mwananchi, and we are ready to face them. People are saying we cannot form a new party and still be loved by the people,” he noted.

“We are changing how Kenyan politics is run. Kuna muujiza tutafanya 2027, that it is possible to make Linda Mwananchi popular across the country in less than 10 months and win the presidency.”

The leaders present called for opposition unity, warning that divisions could work in President Ruto’s favour.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino said: “We also call for opposition unity to avoid giving Kasongo a chance, as he will thrive on our divisions. We urge the entire opposition, from Gachagua to Kalonzo to Matiang’i, to unite so that Kenyans can have a new beginning in 2027.”

Sifuna accused the government of frustrating opposition leaders, citing security concerns involving Siaya Governor James Orengo and his Trans Nzoia counterpart George Natembeya.

“They are using every tactic to frustrate us. The Siaya governor has lost his security. It is God who will protect rengo, just as they are doing to Natembeya. We will not kneel before that pharaoh.”

President Ruto has engaged in a tiff with Governor Natembeya over development projects in the county as the county boss has accused the President of taking credit for county projects during his visit to the region.

The escalating tiff has seen Governor Natembeya’s security detail withdrawn.
