The Jubilee Party has condemned the government for what it
termed as constantly blaming former President Uhuru Kenyatta for the ongoing
economic crisis gripping the country.
In a statement signed by the party's Secretary General Moitalel
Ole Kenta, Jubilee indicated that the State has run out of options and has
instead opted to drag former President Kenyatta and his family into its
political theatrics.
Jubilee noted that this kind of tactic is an admission that
the government has no credible solutions to offer Kenyans.
"The current leadership must now find the way to govern
with the same focus instead of hiding behind his name every time their failures
are exposed. Leave President Uhuru and his family out of your incompetence,
face Kenyans and account for your record," the statement read in part.
The party referenced the surge in fuel prices, citing that the
government must come clean on the levies imposed, particularly the Road
Maintenance Levy.
"These funds, which were intended to maintain our roads
and infrastructure, have instead been used to secure opaque and unexplained
loans. Kenyans deserve full disclosure. How much has been borrowed? Under what
terms? And at what cost to the taxpayer?"
Jubilee also lashed out at the lavish lifestyle of individuals
close to the President, alleging that proximity to power has enabled them to
acquire unexplained amounts of wealth.
The party observed that Kenya requires leadership that
provides solutions instead of blame past administrations for its “failures.”
The development comes as a section of politicians allied to
the government have been accusing Uhuru of using his influence to fund the opposition
ahead of the 2027 polls.
Recently, Health Cabinet Seceratary Aden Duale led a team of
officials in attacking the former Head of State, claiming that Uhuru is
uncomfortable with the current regime.
“Mimi najua kitu inasumbua Rais ni kidogo sana, ni wivu tu...
na ni rafiki yangu unajua nimefanya kazi naye... anaona huyu kijana amepiga
kazi miaka tatu yake, akiona na miaka kumi yake, ya housing alishindwa huyu
kijana miaka tatu amefanya...” Duale stated during a tour in Turbo, Uasin Gishu
County on May 8, 2026.
