Shadrack "Rocky" Wambui of Kayole Wings Miller Boxing Club and G44 Boxing Club’s Benjamin Njeru have expressed their joy after participating in “The Law of the Ring” Charity Welterweight bout at Nairobi Charter Hall to raise two million shillings to help uplift boxing halls in Nairobi.

The bout was staged on Saturday night at Charter Hall in Nairobi in a three-round welterweight fight with Wambui winning it in a unanimous decision.

“The money that we get will go a long way in helping the young male and female boxers in our clubs so that they can hone their skills so that they can become better in what they do.” Said 32-year-old Shadrack.

Njeru, 28, had vowed to knock out Wambui in the first round but just like they do in the law courts, when their client loses a case, – promised on a light note that he is going to file an appeal because he wasn’t satisfied with the officiating.

“I expect people to carry this message home that boxing is a good sport and that it carries hopes for the future and we can see how the game should be carried going forward by getting people and communities to come together and raising money for good initiatives.” Said Njeru.

Wambui and Njeru, who grew up in the slums, are keen to use the sport to inspire the youth to quit crime and drug abuse, problems that are rampant in such urban setups.

Also, their noble course is aimed at bailing out their clubs that are riddled with inadequate training equipment.

Wambui is an alumnus of Catholic University of Eastern Africa and has been an advocate since March 2018 while Njeru, 28, studied at the University of Nairobi and started his practice in July 2020.
