Former Harambee Stars team manager Willis Waliula believes
this season’s Kenyan Premier League title race will go down to the wire between
Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Waliula says both sides have
shown strong determination to win the title, and the second leg of the
Mashemeji Derby could ultimately decide the champion.
“The title race is between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, and
it’s promising to go down to the wire. The two teams are not dropping points
easily, and that is a good thing. I like the way their fans are pushing them to
deliver good results,” said Waliula.
The former Tusker FC team manager adds that the Ambani
brothers’ legacy from the club’s 1998 title-winning season continues to inspire
AFC Leopards in their pursuit of the crown.
“The Ambani brothers’ spirit has really lifted the team. The
chairman and the coach understand how important it is for AFC to win the title.
The last time they won, in 1998, they were the lead strikers. I believe that
legacy is playing a crucial role for the current players,” he added.
Meanwhile, his former side Sofapaka is struggling at the
bottom of the table, and Waliula admits their chances of survival look slim.
“It is sad to see them in that position, but I don’t see
them surviving relegation. They lack quality players and the motivation to deal
with the pressure,” he stated.
