Learning at the Kisumu National Polytechnic was paralysed on Wednesday after students went on strike for the second time in a week.

The rowdy students stormed out of the institution, barricading nearby roads, affecting transport, and prompting anti-riot police to move in.

They claimed the university administration has declined to meet them to listen to their grievances while accusing their representatives of siding with the management.

The students noted that a number of changes have been made in the institution without their involvement, sparking the protest.

Among other issues raised is the high cost of food at the University canteen which they want to be reviewed downwards.

The Principal Catherine Kalonye however says the institution is being run by a Council that must ratify such increases before it is passed to the students.
