A 65-year-old man died on Friday, October 29, 2021, after he was attacked by a swarm of bees at their home in Kotunga village, Kajulu area in Kisumu East Sub County.

According to witnesses, the deceased had responded to cries of help after the marauding bees attacked his 85-year-old father at their home.

The bees are said said to have turned on the deceased after he waged a war with them as he tried to rescue his frail father from the hundreds of bees.

The 85-year-old father survived the attack but sustained serious injuries - and was rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) while in critical condition.

Kajulu West location Chief Tobias Omollo confirmed the incident - noting that the deceased succumbed to the be stings.

"The deceased braved the bees - to cover his frail father with a blanket and managed to rescue him from being stung any further. Unfortunately, the bees turned on him and stung him to death," noted the chief.

According to the chief, attempts by the members of the public to scare away the bees - and save the deceased from being stung bore no fruit  - as it was already too late.

Reports indicated that wild bees were housed at a hive right inside the home of the deceased.

According to witnesses, the bees were triggered by intense noise coming from a rumbling lorry that was ferrying sand in the neighbourhood.
