KPA launches probe after RTG crane incident at Mombasa port

This is after videos circulating on social media showed several shipping containers stacked on top of one another at the port, with one container appearing to have been completely crushed following the incident.

In a statement, the Authority explained that the incident occurred at approximately 3.40 pm on Thursday, September 17, and was immediately attended to by KPA's safety and emergency response teams. 

KPA revealed that the truck tractor operator involved in the incident emerged unscathed, while the RTG operator sustained minor soft-tissue injuries to his legs. 

The operator was taken to hospital for medical evaluation as a precautionary measure and was later discharged after receiving treatment and being cleared by the attending medical team.

KPA, however, did not provide details on whether any containers were damaged or the extent of the property damage, saying investigations into the circumstances and cause of the incident are ongoing.
