Kilifi County Assembly SpeakerJimmy Kahindi, says that the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) will not be allowed to address the media over the alleged loss of Ksh 51 million at the county, saying the matter is under investigations.

Addressing a presser on Monday, November 21 in his office after meeting with Kilifi Senator, Stewart Madzayo, he said that the move is aimed at ensuring there is a proper flow of correct information to avoid cases of contradiction and misinformation.

According to him, the decison was arrived at after one of the local dailies reported that the amount of money allegedly stolen from the Department of Health had risen to Ksh 1.187 billion.

The Speaker said that records from the hansard are very clear and the media has been misleading the public on the loss.

“On the material day, different officers gave different figures ranging from Ksh 51 Million, Ksh 200 million, Ksh 500 million, Ksh 1.8 billion  and up to Ksh 2 billion,” he said.

He said that the 10 suspended officers who had been summoned by the Committee on General Oversight have requested not to appear on camera.

“We had to direct the media and the public to go out to allow them to talk freely.”
