Kenya will host the 2026 FIFA Women's Series matches between April 11 and 15 at Nyayo National Stadium, bringing together India, Australia, Malawi in a landmark event that will mark the country's first time staging a FIFA global football competition.

The announcement was made in Nairobi on Tuesday by the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya, who described the development as a major breakthrough for both Kenyan football and the wider sports sector.

"I am pleased to announce that Kenya has once again been selected to host the 2026 FIFA Women’s Series Matches, marking a historic milestone as our country hosts a FIFA global football event for the very first time," Mvurya said.

The selection places Kenya on the global football map as a host nation and underlines FIFA's confidence in the country's organizational capacity and readiness to deliver an international tournament even as the country prepares to co host AFCON 2027.

"This selection is a strong vote of confidence in Kenya's proven hosting capability. It affirms what the world and our continent have consistently witnessed Kenya’s ability to successfully plan, organize, and deliver world-class sporting events," the CS added.

The matches are expected to offer Harambee Starlets a valuable opportunity to compete against diverse international opposition on home soil, while also providing a platform to showcase emerging talent in women's football.

Beyond competition, the event is being positioned as part of a broader effort to elevate Kenya's status in global sport, with the government highlighting ongoing investments in infrastructure and policy reforms aimed at strengthening the sector.

Upgrades to key facilities, including Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums, form part of a wider plan to align local venues with international standards and support the hosting of high-level events.

As preparations gather pace, Kenya will also look to use the tournament to highlight its hospitality and cultural appeal, while rallying local support behind the national team ahead of the historic fixtures.
