Narc Kenya Chair Martha Karua has announced that she has picked Kirinyaga MP Gachoki Gitari as her running mate ahead of the August 8 polls.
The two will face off with Jubilee’s Anne Waiguru, Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi and Muriithi Kagai – with the latter two running as independent candidates.
“My running mate and I have confirmed to our supporters that these are not rumors; we will battle it out together,” Martha Karua said.
Former Devolution CS Waiguru is favoured to win the gubernatorial seat, having won a Jubilee ticket in a county that is in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s perceived stronghold.
Despite this, Karua expressed confidence that she and her running mate could hold their own in the upcoming polls.
“We shall show them dust in the August poll,” she said, adding: “We are both supporting President Uhuru and his Deputy Ruto.”
Confirming that he is going on the ticket with Karua, Gitari said Karua’s integrity won him over.
“Before I made this decision I investigated and found that for the 20 years she has been in politics she has not been involved in any corruption scandal,” he remarked.
Speaking in Sagana in Ndia Constituency accompanied by over 300 supporters, he told Waiguru to prepare for a heated battle on August 8.
