Kakamega High impress as unlucky Highway stumble at KSSSA games

The 2026 KCB Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term Two Games continued on Monday at the M-Pesa Foundation Academy, with teams battling for crucial points in the pool stages as wins and surprise upsets highlighted another action-packed day across various sports.

In boys' football, Western Region champions Kakamega High underlined their title credentials with a commanding 4-0 victory over Tumaini Boys.

Julius Ochieng handed the Green Commandos a first-half lead before Macline Adika, Daniel Ombati and Bradley Mulamba added three more goals after the break to seal an emphatic win as Kakamega continued their quest to reclaim the national football title they last won in 2018.

In another closely contested boys' football fixture, Menengai High School stunned defending champions Highway Secondary School with a narrow 1-0 victory at the M-Pesa Foundation Academy. Highway had opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Tononoka Secondary School, but the defeat leaves the group wide open heading into the remaining pool matches.

Takaba Day Secondary School produced one of the biggest wins of the day, thrashing St Philip's Baricho 7-1, while St Mary's School Yala defeated Tononoka Secondary School 5-1. Tuesday will highlight the last pool matches and the deciders for the teams that qualify to the next stage.

In the girls' volleyball competition, defending national and East Africa champions Kwanthanze Girls bounced back strongly after their opening-day 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22) defeat to tournament newcomers Mwitoti Secondary School. The champions responded in style with a straight-sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-16) victory over Kahuro Girls to revive their title defence.

Kesogon Secondary School also secured a convincing 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-19) victory over Soweto Academy, while Aluor School defeated Mwanambeyu Secondary School in straight sets, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-17). Mwitoti Secondary School continued their impressive debut campaign with another dominant performance, beating Wajir Girls 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-17).

The championship continues across the various venues, with teams from netball, basketball 3by3, rugby sevens, and baseball battling for places in the knockout stages.
