Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has ditched the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Governor Sakaja abandoned President William Ruto's party on Monday, and now seeks to successfully vie for a second term with an ODM ticket in the 2027 General Election.

At the party's headquarters in Chungwa House, Nairobi, he was welcomed by the ODM Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati, party National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, among other principals.

Sakaja said that he brings his experience to the party and a vibrant youthful support to propel the party's interests ahead of the polls.

"I bring with me the commitment I had to service, experience, energy and conviction that the next phase of politics, the next chapter of our politics must be measured not simply by elections we win but the lives we transform," he asserted.

The Governor also attributed his move to his relationship with the party founder, the late Raila Odinga, noting that he subscribes to his leadership policies.

"If Baba was here today, and he is the one who told me to join ODM, he said that Nairobi should remain bold and we will do everything to ensure that is present in ODM," he said.

If he secures the party ticket to run in the Nairobi Gubernatorial race, he will contest against the Mwananchi Party's Babu Owino, Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri and other political top shots.
