Impala
Saracens vice chairman Charles Mbogo has said they have already contested Kenya
Rugby Union’s decision to relegate them from the Kenya Cup.
Kenya
Harlequins was relegated after the league ended tied on 17 points with Impala,
only for the decision to be reversed based on head-to-head record, as
Harlequins defeated Impala 29-20.
“From
the email sent from KRU is like they made recreation recall redefining the
league, because there was one away match played at Harlequins while the manual
talks about matches; which is home and away for fairness, so around that area
is where we are looking if we can contest that determination” explained Mbogo.
Mbogo
is also uncomfortable with how the committee that came up with the decision to
relegate them was formed.
“Our
question is why was a committee called in to address a league standing table
while the league has been going on since November? They’ve been following the
rule of most points followed by point’s difference and that has been in use for
the last five to six years,” said Mbogo.
“So
we’re not sure why the committee decided to meet now; if they could have met
before the season started that would have clarified that situation because it
looks like KRU have an internal confusion,” observed Mbogo.
Impala Saracens and Nondescripts have been relegated to the Championship League, the second tier of the sport in Kenya.
