Shakava says he wants to reward his new employers with
excellent performance for the trust they showed in him, as he ditched Gor
Mahia in the just concluded transfer window.
Shakava
signed a one-year deal with Police and has already played one match which they
lost 1-0 to Kariobangi Sharks, but the veteran defender is confident they will
bounce back stronger.
Although
he has won all local trophies with Gor, his hunger for more has not diminished,
the former Nkana FC towering defender saying Police is a good ground for more
records.
“I want to repay their trust in me by working hard both in
training and during games, that’s what we have been doing since I joined the
team. I feel welcomed by everyone and we are ready to deliver when the league
resumes this weekend,” said Shakava.
The
newly promoted side will take on Wazito FC on Sunday hoping to rise higher from
their current 12th position in the Kenyan premier League log, having collected
22points from 18 matches.
The former Gor captain says that having played with most of the current Police players
at club and national team levels previously, it has been easy to settle under coach John ‘Bobby’
Ogolla.
“We have played together before with a good number of players either
at Gor Mahia or in Zambia, and even during national team duties so it has been
easy for me to adjust. We feel psyched up for the upcoming matches and we are
hoping to put perform well,” added Shakava
During the two-week break the Kenyan Premier League has taken,
Shakava notes they have had ample time to sharpen more for the forthcoming matches.
“We will take one game at a time, we want to get maximum points
in each. We won’t underrate any team because there is the important part of
getting the good results for our fans and management,” the former Gor Mahia
skipper told Citizen Digital.
Police have invested heavily in new
players this season, after securing promotion from the National Super League
showing more affinity for experienced ones who have featured for both top clubs
locally and abroad, and the national team Harambee Stars.
Such include former Gor Mahia captain Musa Mohammed, Francis Kahata, former AFC Leopards captain Duncan Otieno, Harambee Stars striker Elvis Rupia, Clifton Miheso and Duke Abuya.
