A sombre mood has engulfed Segerot village in Chepalungu, Bomet County, after a nurse allegedly killed his wife before dying by suicide following a suspected domestic dispute.

The body of the woman, identified as Viola Kirui, who was in her 40s, was found lying on a bed inside the couple’s home, while that of her husband was discovered hanging from a tree within their compound

Cheboin Sub-location Assistant Chief Daisy Sawe said preliminary findings indicate that the man, also in his 40s and a nurse at Longisa County Referral Hospital, may have strangled his wife before taking his own life.

Kirui was a teacher.

Authorities also reported finding a suspected injectable substance inside the bedroom where Kirui’s body was discovered. Investigators are yet to establish whether it was connected to the deaths.

According to Sawe, the couple had allegedly been experiencing frequent domestic disagreements, which had previously prompted relatives to intervene in an effort to resolve their differences.

Police officers from Bomet Central Police Station visited the scene before moving the two bodies to the Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary.

Postmortem examinations are expected to be conducted to establish the exact causes of death as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
