President William Ruto has rallied Kenyan workers to support his second bid for the presidency, saying he is best placed to unite the country.
Speaking during Labour Day celebrations on Friday, the Head of State
accused the opposition of fuelling division, insisting he remains focused on
fostering national unity.
“It is our divine mission, fellow leaders, that we work
together ndio tuunde serikali 2027 ya kuunganisha Wakenya wote, tuondoe
ukabila, tuondoe chuki, tuondoe migawanyiko, tuondoe ubaguzi ili Kenya
tuunganishe tusonge mbele tukiwa pamoja,” said Ruto.
Political undertones dominated the celebrations, with
leaders endorsing the President’s re-election bid and urging Kenyans to back
his leadership.
COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli praised the President’s development agenda,
saying: “I thank you, your excellency, for your boldness. You are very bold
because you have undertaken projects that most presidents shied away from.”
Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and MSMEs Wycliffe Oparanya also pledged support from the Western
region.
“I assure you as a community, we are with you and we shall
continue to be with you. 2027 hapa ni two term,” he said.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi echoed the sentiment, calling for a
decisive mandate.
“Tunataka two term ambayo imepitia kwa debe voted by the
people with a resounding majority ili tuende mbele kama Wakenya,” he said.
As he seeks to retain his position, President Ruto used the
platform to court workers while dismissing critics, maintaining that his
administration remains on course in delivering Kenya’s development agenda.
