Mzee Kududu Maulana, 65, a farmer from Mangai village in the Boni forest, had been suffering from cataracts for more than a decade.

“It started with me experiencing clouded, almost foggy vision,” Kududu told Wananchi Reporting.

“I could not go about my daily activities because I could not see, and had to rely on my other senses,” he said.

Unable to farm his land, he had to depend on his family and well-wishers for his livelihood.

His hope of ever regaining his sight had diminished because there were no hospitals in his village of Mangai.

Help came after more than 10 years.

A jubilant Kududu was airlifted to Lamu King Fahad Hospital last week following the efforts of the Kenya Defence Forces and the Lamu county home based care programme.

Kududu was operated on by a team of surgeons who were conducting different surgical procedures for residents.

''I thank the doctors for what they have done to me. It's like I am born again,” said a jubilant Kududu.
