Harambee Starlets attacking midfielder Cynthia Shilwatso left the country Tuesday evening for Spain to seal a three-year contract deal with top tier side Logrono FC.

An elated Shilwatso said that moving to Spain to start a professional football journey is a dream come true and believes her move will open the door for many more Kenyan women footballers.

She also attributed her growth to the support from her fans and coaches.

Shilwatsto started her football career at Ibindo Girls before joining the three-time Women Premier League champions Vihiga Queens before forcing her way into the national side Harambee Starlets.

According to Shilwatso , her motivation is tied to her being a breadwinner in her humble family and this makes her want to go even higher to see her family lead a better life.

“I’m a breadwinner and I want to make my mama proud. My family has been through a lot hence the need for me to take care of them,” she told Citizen Digital moments before boarding the plane to the European nation.

She added: “I will miss my mum, family members and my teammates but I’m hopeful we gonna meet soon. I have to do this for Kenya and for my family.”

Shilwatso also took time to hail her secondary school Ibinzo Girls, Vihiga Queens family and the Harambee Starlets fraternity for their support, promising to keep the discipline and work extra hard for more opportunities.

Alex Alumira, the Vihiga Queens coach has in the meantime attributed Shilwatso’s growth to dedication, adding that success is a collective effort and believes this is just the start of good things for the ace.

Shilwatso impressed the European scouts in last year’s CECAFA games as Kenya beat Tanzania 2-0 to win the title .
