The government has released Ksh.8,577,808,000 as payment to 1,072,226 Inua Jamii cash transfer programme beneficiaries currently on payroll.

In a statement from the director of Social Protection Judy Tuda on Wednesday, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection said the payment will cover the months of July, August, September and October.

Tuda added that the payments will see each beneficiary get Ksh.8,000 disbursed through the Payment Service Providers (PSPs), beginning Monday, January 12.

At the same time, the government will disburse an additional KShs.8,400,500 as complimentary top ups to 4,549 beneficiaries of the Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE).

The latest lies on the backdrop of concerns over delayed payments of the fund with the department of social protection saying that the delay had been occasioned by the National Treasury after the Kenya Kwanza administration took over office.

The Inua Jamii programme under the Ministry of Labour targets orphans and vulnerable children; older persons and persons with severe disabilities.

Under the Inua Jamii programme, the beneficiaries are eligible to a Ksh. 2000 monthly stipend.
