Gen Z protest probe: Court detains Bob Njagi for 7 days, orders forensic analysis of his phones

Senior Principal Magistrate S. Mwangi of the Kajiado Law Courts declined a police application seeking to hold Njagi for 14 days, instead authorising his detention until July 2, 2026.

The court also directed that two mobile phones recovered from the activist be surrendered to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for forensic examination.

Njagi will remain in custody at Isinya Police Station before being presented in court next Wednesday, when he is expected to take a plea.

The activist was arrested early Wednesday over allegations that he circulated videos on social media that allegedly incited young people to participate in the Gen Z memorial protests held in Kitengela on Thursday.

Meanwhile, more than 100 other suspects arrested during Wednesday's and Thursday's operations, including activist Aslam Longton, are expected to be arraigned before the Kajiado Law Courts on Friday.

The suspects were arrested during a two-day police crackdown targeting demonstrators marking the anniversary of the 2024/2025 Gen Z protests. Police accuse them of participating in unlawful assemblies in Kitengela.

Those arrested are expected to face various charges including unlawful assembly.
