Political campaigns in Ol Kalou Constituency have gained momentum ahead of the July 16 by-election date.

As the polling date draws nearer, senior government officials are among the parties that have pitched tents in the area. On the other hand, the opposition led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has also set foot in the constituency.

Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries, Members of Parliament and Senate are among those who have flocked to Ol Kalou to drum up support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samwel Muchina.

Led by Minister for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano, Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira and Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri are leading one of the government teams to solicit votes as the government side UDA takes on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua-led DCP party in the forthcoming mini-polls.

Elsewhere, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome was at Ol-Kalou PCEA on Sunday in the company of MPs Anne Wamuratha and Sabina Chege.

Earlier, Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru was in Ol-Kalou last Tuesday to launch the Gilgil-Ol-Kalou-Nyahururu railway.

The Miano-led team was in Ngorika trading centre over the weekend, where they graced a thanksgiving fete for Musician-cum-politician Paul Waiganjo.

The musician sought the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket in the parliamentary race, but Kamau Ngotho. Waiganjo came second during the May 9 DCP party nominations.

He cited irregularities in the nominations and has since joined the UDA brigade to drum up support for Muchina.

On joining UDA, Waiganjo was offered a government job and would lead in popularizing government’s development projects in the county.

Speaking during the event, the leaders rallied residents to support the government as it commits to implementing various infrastructural projects aimed at transforming their lives.

Key among the projects are last-mile power connectivity, water and rural roads, which they observed would play a key role in spurring development growth in the region.

They urged residents to shun the opposition, which they accused of fueling hatred and divisive politics in the region.

They noted the National government is currently focusing on bringing tangible changes to the residents, adding that time for politics will come.

The Ol Kalou seat fell vacant after MP David Njuguna Kiaraho died on March 29, 2026, while receiving medical treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
