Kenyan entrepreneur Wawira Njiru, who is the founder of Food for Education Initiative has won the 2022 Icon Award by World's 50 Best. 

Wawira was announced as the winner of award during a ceremony to celebrate the World’s 50 best restaurants.

“Put your hands together for this year’s winner of the Icon Award! Wawira Njiru is a #Kenyan social entrepreneur using the power of food to enhance education,” World’s 50 Best announced.

A thankful Wawira shared her excitement on her social media, saying she could not attend the ceremony in London due to visa hitches.

“Thankful to have been selected the recipient of this year’s Icon Award by @TheWorlds50Best restaurants. Sad I couldn’t make it to London for the award ceremony because of UK visa delays but humbled and excited to continue Feeding the future Thankful to have been selected the recipient of this year’s Icon Award by TheWorlds50Best restaurants,” she wrote.

Under the William Reed Business Media, The World’s 50 Best ranks world’s best restaurants and also narrows down to best restaurants in specific regions.

Wawira’s story on starting the Food for Education initiative is one that was inspired by a desire to provide high quality, nutritious meals to students in Kenyan public primary schools to improve their nutrition and education outcomes.
