The Eldoret City Marathon which was scheduled to take place on April 11 this year has been postponed to a later date due to the directive issued by the president last week to curb spread of coronavirus.

Addressing the press in Eldoret town, the race patron governor Jackson Mandago said the decision was reached by the organizing committee until the issued protocols are relaxed in the future.

Mandago said athletes who have registered will not need to register again once a new date is set for the annual event that attracts over 3,000 athletes from the North Rift region.

He said the marathon’s aim is to boost environmental conservation in the region where over 1 million tree seedlings are to be planted.

The race director Moses Tanui called on athletes and other participants to continue with their preparations for the race, with a new date to be announced in the near future.
