A 29-year-old woman and her son have died in what police in Bomet believe is death by suicide and filicide.

According to Bomet central sub-county police commandant Musa Omar Imamai, the deceased, Caren Langat, killed her one-year-old son first, before hanging herself.

The news of the double tragedy left residents of Nyongores, in Bomet central, reeling in shock.

The two bodies were found dangling from the roof of the family house.

Area chief Gideon Ngetich decried the rising cases of death by suicide in the area, most of them linked to domestic squabbles.

Police officers from Silibwet station were called to the scene – and took statements from the husband of the deceased, and other witnesses.

The two bodies were taken to Longisa hospital mortuary.
