The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) plans to host a large doctors' assembly at RFUEA grounds along Ngong Road.

In a post on X, KMPDU urged all doctors, medical interns, and medical students to attend the meeting on Tuesday where they shall discuss pressing matters regarding doctors’ welfare.

Meanwhile, the KMPDU Nyanza branch is set to hold a peaceful demonstration in Kisumu today, rallying medics from Kakamega and Kisumu counties.

This follows last week's demonstrations where doctors from Nakuru, Meru, Nairobi, and Eldoret counties took to the streets to push the government to heed their call.

As the nationwide doctors' strike continues, KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah has reiterated that they will not return to work until their demands are met.

Addressing a meeting of the union’s national officials in Kirinyaga on Monday, Atellah accused the Ministry of Health, led by Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, and county governments of intimidating doctors through threats of termination.

“Nobody should think they are more important or more Kenyan than us so that we can be stopped from fighting for our rights. As leaders, we are ready for anything… until they implement the CBA,” Atellah said.

This follows calls from the Council of Governors and the Ministry of Health directing doctors to resume work otherwise they shall be sacked.

Joining the ongoing doctors’ strike, clinical officers have also begun their strike on Monday. This follows the expiration of their one-week strike notice and the Ministry of Health's failure to address their issues.

The strike has caused a standstill in services at Level 2 to 5 hospitals nationwide, worsening the already dire situation caused by the ongoing doctor's strike.
