There was chaos at the Baringo County Assembly on Thursday afternoon whilst MCAs were debating the BBI Bill.

According to reports, drama begun after Ernest Kibet- who vied as an independent candidate- was slapped twice on the back by Mogotio Ward MCA Charles Kosgei throwing the assembly into chaos.

KANU MCAs are the minority in the assembly with only 12 members and had alleged that they were being undermined by their Jubilee counterparts.

Amaya Ameja Selemoi, a local MCA claimed that a section of Jubilee MCAs were planning to shoot down the motion without the residents engaging in public participation.

“Mr. speaker, I know there are some Jubilee members here who are conniving to shoot down the bill which is sponsored by the government, this is very unfair” Selemoi said.

According to Selemoi, the BBI is God sent and will improve the lives of Tiaty residents drastically.

Kabarnet MCA Kibet also drummed up support for the bill saying it will boost the region’s economy from the proposed 35% revenue allocation to counties from the current 15%.

Kibet also termed as propaganda that under BBI, Mogotio Constituency will be scrapped.

Several videos had shown the assembly MCAs in shouting matches with the debate appearing to have stopped altogether momentarily.

The shouting matches lasted over half an hour; it took the intervention of the assembly speaker David Kerich to quell down tempers in order for the debate to continue

Photos shared after the incident showed two police Land rovers arriving at the assembly to beef up the security.
