In a statement issued on April 9, 2026, the governor stated that the decision was taken in good faith and in the broader public interest, aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the county government and safeguarding the integrity of its institutions.
“Subject to Section 40(1)(a) of the County Government Act, all Members of the County Executive Committee, the County Attorney, and the County Secretary have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Despite the major shake-up, Bungoma residents were assured that service delivery would not be disrupted, with the county indicating that measures have been put in place to ensure continuity of essential services.
“The County Government remains committed to continuity of services, and appropriate administrative measures have been put in place to ensure that there is no disruption in the delivery of essential services,” the statement added.
The governor’s office further indicated that communication on interim arrangements and new appointments would be made in due course, in line with the law.
The affected officials were thanked for their service, with the county reaffirming its commitment to constitutionalism, the rule of law, and due process.
The shakeup comes hours after the Bungoma County Assembly held a special sitting to seek the impeachment of County Attorney Edward Oringe Waswa.
