Athletics Integrity Unit to collaborate with Kenyan gov’t to weed out doping - Clothier

The Independent Athletics Integrity Unit CEO Brett Clothier says there are concerted efforts in tackling doping in the country.

Speaking in Eldoret town while on a tour of the North Rift region, Clothier said though there have been many doping cases in the past; there is good news through the national government's efforts of allocating additional funding of up to 5 million dollars to tackle the doping menace.

He said he will hold a meeting with the Sports cabinet secretary and other sports officials in Nairobi this Friday, to chart the way forward.

On his part Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii cautioned rogue coaches, saying some have ill motives hence introducing athletes into doping.

Athletics Kenya President Retired General Jack Tuei said the doping menace is not a new phenomenon in the country, noting that the first case was reported in the county in 1988, and since then the cases have shot up.

According to Tuwei, the World Athletics Council met last year and discussed the rising cases of doping in the country, where Kenya was a chance to deal with the issue, warning against setting a bad precedence.
