The organisers of Eldoret City Marathon(ECM) have reassured the participants, sponsors and athletics fans that they have put in place elaborate measures to host the race scheduled for April 11 amid Covid -19 pandemic.

Speaking in Eldoret town after launching the registration and receiving cheques from sponsors, race patron Moses Tanui said ECM is the only marathon this year in the region after Tanzania cancelled theirs, adding that all precautionary measures and health protocols will be adhered to.

The event was postponed last year due to the Coronavirus.

This year’s race is dedicated to environmental conservation whereby over 1 million tree seedlings are to be planted to mitigate climate change.

Uasin Gishu county deputy governor Daniel Chemno said the marathon has nurtured many young athletes that have entered into atheltics books by breaking world records.

He said the event will also help identify young upcoming athletes as older ones proceed to retirement.

Over two thousand athletes are expected to register for the race majorly from athletics rich counties of Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu and Nandi.

The winners in both male and female categories will pocket Sh 3.5 million each.
