Gor Mahia will face Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday at
Kasarani Stadium in league fixture kicking off at 3:15pm, with the league
leaders aiming to extend their perfect record against their opponents.
Between the two sides, Gor Mahia have gotten the
better of Sharks, winning all five previous encounters. Head coach Charles
Akonnor is taking no chances and is keen on deploying a plan that would yield
good results.
“We have taken it very seriously. We are aware of
the style of play of the opponent (Sharks) and we have a plan which we believe
will work in our favour when we implement,” noted coach Akonnor.
Gor Mahia have won four of their last five league matches, with one ending in a draw, while Kariobangi Sharks have won two and lost three in their last five outings.
After 25 matches, Gor Mahia are perched
at the summit on 56 points, as Sharks are placed 15th on the log with 25
points.
However, staying at the top comes with pressure, and
coach Akonnor says they are not taking anything for granted.
“It’s always good to be on top, but it’s important
to be aware of your position. We don’t have to take anything for granted. We
have worked hard to get to this level; therefore, it’s important to keep the
momentum going and be committed to this call,” he added.
Apart from three players (Bynne Omondi, Sylvester
Owino and Felix Oluoch) who are sidelined with injuries, coach Akonnor says all
other players are in good shape for selection.
Gor Mahia are yet to taste a defeat this year, as
their good run places them as a serious title contender.
