National 3x3 basketball
teams have intensified their training ahead of the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Africa
Cup, which will take place at the Cairo International Stadium in Al Qahirah,
Egypt, from December 1 - 3.
The coach of the
women's national team, Everlyne Kedogo, says she is confident the team will do
well in the competition despite the fact that their training has been disrupted a couple of times due to the unavailability of Nyayo Stadium.
Kedogo says that despite the lack of enough 3x3
basketball courts to ease their preparations, they will strive to do well in
Egypt while aiming to qualify for the Olympic next year in Paris, France.
"We have been progressing well with our
training and we have been aiming to improve this team and we are getting
stronger ready for the competition. The problem is that here in the stadium we
are sharing the court with almost everybody including dancers, legislators and
so on and so forth. You come here in the morning and you find another team
training which waters down what you had planned for the day." Said
Everlyne.
Her sentiments were echoed by men's team star
player Larry Shivanga, who believes that their cooperation and teamwork in
training will help them register good results in Cairo under the guidance of
coach Zadock Adika.
"This year we have had a couple of
tournaments which the U23's have participated in. We have been watching the
games and have adjusted very well on the dos and don'ts in order to win more
games than we have done before.” Said Shivanga.
The teams will leave the country this Wednesday
night or Thursday morning for the competition, which is part of the Olympic qualifiers and will start on Friday, December 1st.
