A 16-year-old boy has died after he was attacked by a crocodile in River Chepkulo, Bomet County.

Area police chief Panton Analo said that the incident happened in Tuiyobei area in Chepalungu.

He added that the victim, a form 3 student at Nogirwet Secondary School, was dragged approximately five meters into a deeper part of the river.

The victim sustained severe injuries, including deep wounds to the left foot and toes, as well as significant trauma to the chest and thighs.

His body was subsequently retrieved and taken to Longisa Hospital mortuary for further examination.

Chief Tulmat noted that such incidents are unprecedented in the area.

He speculated that the crocodiles may have strayed from the Maasai Mara game reserve in search of food.

A team from Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) visited the site to conduct an investigation into the incident, as the community seeks answers and reassurances regarding their safety.
