10 mourners killed after bus crash on Wundanyi-Mwatate road

10 people have been confirmed dead after a bus they were travelling in crashed in Josa area on Saturday, along the Wundanyi-Mwatate road.

The bus, which was ferrying 34 mourners from a funeral in Mgambonyi area lost direction at around 8:30 pm, and its brakes failed. As a result, it fell into a slope, causing the death of 10 people; nine female and one male.

A subsequent police statement stated that 17 people and an infant were seriously injured and one adult slightly injured. 

The remaining passengers who were injured were rushed to Mwatate Sub County Hospital and Moi Level 5 Hospital for treatment. The bodies were likewise taken to Moi Level 5 hospital.

Police officers have initiated further investigations, calling on drivers, especially those who are not familiar with the road to be more careful. 

So far, police added, five bodies have been positively identified.
