Concerns over high number of Kenyans who still practice open defecation
Up to five million Kenyans still practice open defecation across the country, according to a report by UNICEF.
This has prompted several counties to hold initiatives to eradicate the practice, with the goal being to end the habit by 2030.
The health department in Kilifi put together an initiative to educate residents on the importance of good hygiene practices.
Speaking during a public awareness forum in Malindi on Wednesday, Amref official Daniel Kurau, said a public hygiene awareness drive has been launched in 15 counties where the problem of public defecation is highest.
“Each county has to actively put efforts into ensuring that this habit is brought to an end,” he said.
Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Chibule echoed the sentiments, saying that it calls for each party to put efforts into eradicating the habit.
