Kenya's Rayton Okwiri is set to face Uganda's Shafik
Lukyamuzi in a World Boxing Association (WBA) title bout scheduled for
September 1, 2024, in Port Louis, Mauritius.
The fight will be for the vacant WBA Pan-African
Middleweight title and promises to be an exciting match-up between two skilled boxers.
Okwiri who is managed by Kenya Prisons Boxing
Association Secretary General Bernard Otoo, says he is ready for his opponent
as it comes at a time he had longed for a world title fight before hanging up
his gloves.
"The promoter handling this fight has not yet
received all the information, but he has assured me that by tomorrow
(Tuesday) evening we will have complete information about all the preparations,”
said Okwiri.
Okwiri last defeated Limbani Chikapa of Malawi in a
four-round non-title fight at Boxing and Jammin III in Moka, Mauritius, last
month, and is currently training under a panel of three coaches led by former
international Daniel Shisia.
"The fight is still on, and it will be in
Mauritius on September 1 2024. By tomorrow evening I will avail all the details
regarding the fight itself."
Rayton Okwiri is known for his aggressive style and
technical prowess and has built a strong reputation in the middleweight
division with several impressive victories.
On the other hand, Shafik Lukyamuzi is a formidable
opponent with a solid record, known for his power punches and resilience in the
ring, and will be looking to upset Okwiri and claim the title for himself.
