Mombasa Combined boxing team head coach Peter Onyango is confident of his team's ability to participate and challenge for honours in the East African Club Championships which is ongoing in Tanga, Tanzania, noting they’ve had ample training time to gear up for the tournament.

"We expect strong performances in Tanga. Our boxers have been dedicated in camp, and I’m confident they’ll bring home medals for Kenya," Onyango said.

Some 16 Kenyan boxers are representing the country in the four-day event, which has also attracted participants from South Africa and Malawi.

Onyango highlighted that this year's championship includes junior categories aimed at developing young talent and giving less experienced boxers a platform to grow.

The tourney – is the third appearance at the international championships for the Mombasa Combined team, which previously won two gold medals in the last two editions. The coach is optimistic that their seasoned fighters will help retain their titles and uphold their winning reputation.

"Our experienced boxers have won gold in the last two championships, and we’re ready to defend those titles and maintain our edge," Onyango added.

Team Captain Kombo Mwinyi called on Kenyan fans to support the boxers as they strive for success in Tanga.

"Competing internationally demands thorough preparation, and our team has been guided by top-notch technical trainers," Mwinyi said. "Our past victories give us a valuable advantage, and we’re ready to make Kenya proud once again."
