Gor sink Sharks, Nairobi United stun Homeboyz to earn FKF Cup semifinal spots

Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia kept their dream of a domestic double alive with a 2-0 victory over Kariobangi Sharks on Thursday evening at the Dandora Stadium, sealing a place in the semi-finals of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup.

Patrick Ekandjoum opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Alpha Onyango sealed the win five minutes from time. Speaking to Citizen Digital after the match, head coach Sinisa Mihic, who rested several regular starters ahead of Sunday’s league tie against Shabana, lauded his side’s tactical discipline.

“The advantage we had is that we played counter-attack football—this was the plan. That’s why we played Patrick, Musa Shariff, and Samuel Kapen. It paid off,” Mihic said.

“The pitch did affect our performance—many of our players were sliding. I don’t know if it was the boots or the surface. But overall, our plan worked. I told the boys to kill the game in the second half.”

Kariobangi Sharks head coach William Muluya admitted Gor were the better side, attributing the loss to the superior quality in their opponent’s squad.

“We’ve played Gor Mahia three times this season and lost all three. Two seasons ago, it was never this easy for them. They’ve really improved. Let’s tell the truth,” said Muluya.

“We had chances—Leone Levit and Isaac Memusi should’ve scored before Gor got their second. They were clinical; we were not. That made the difference.”

Murang’a SEAL fight back to sink Ulinzi Stars

In another quarter final clash, Murang’a SEAL came from behind twice to stun Ulinzi Stars 3-2 in a thriller.

Staphod Odhiambo gave Ulinzi the lead in the 14th minute, with the soldiers holding a 1-0 advantage at the break. Joe Waithira equalized for SEAL in the 51st minute, but Meshack Karani restored Ulinzi’s lead 11 minutes later.

SEAL hit back almost instantly with another goal from Waithira, this time from the penalty spot, before Victor Haki netted the winner in the 79th minute to complete the comeback.

Head coach Yusuf Chipo hailed his team’s resilience:

“We always struggle after conceding early, but at halftime, I told the boys we could turn it around—and they did,” said Chipo.

“The hunger I saw today is the same we need in the league. If we carry this form into our next match against Sofapaka, I believe we’ll take all three points.”

“We’ve agreed as a group—seven games are enough to save our season. The fight starts now.”

Nairobi United outclass Homeboyz to book semis spot

National Super League leaders Nairobi United continued their fairy-tale run in the FKF Cup with a 2-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz at Dandora Stadium.

Frank Ouya opened the scoring just three minutes in, and Isaac Omweri added the second shortly after the restart. The result means Nairobi United have now eliminated two FKF Premier League sides—Tusker in the Round of 16 and now Homeboyz—cementing their status as dark horses in the competition.

Kenya Police await final quarterfinal opponent

Kenya Police, who booked their quarterfinal spot with a 1-0 win over Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA), are still awaiting confirmation of their opponent.

A petition by AFC Leopards has delayed the conclusion of the tie between Mara Sugar and Compel FC.

Leopards protested poor officiating and crowd trouble during their chaotic Round of 16 clash with Mara Sugar—a match ultimately awarded to Mara by the federation. Ingwe have since appealed the decision pending hearing and determination.
