Amorim concerned by 'serious' Martinez injury in latest Man Utd defeat
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is worried Lisandro Martinez's
season might be over after the Argentine was stretchered off in a 2-0 home defeat
by Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The Red Devils were beaten at Old Trafford for the fifth
time in six Premier League games as Jean Philippe-Mateta struck twice for the
Eagles in the second half, either side of a lengthy stoppage for Martinez to
receive treatment.
"Licha is really important for us, not just as a
football player but the character he has, especially in this hard moment,"
said Amorim. "Now it's time for us to help Licha.
"I think it's a bad situation. Let's wait to assess
things with the doctor, but I think it's a serious situation."
United only have one more day to act should they wish to
bring in cover for Martinez in the transfer market before the window closes on
Monday.
Patrick Dorgu was paraded before kick-off against Palace as
the first signing of the Amorim era after completing a £25 million ($37
million) move from Lecce.
But the Portuguese coach insisted United must learn from
their mistakes of the past in the transfer market and not be panicked into
making costly deals.
"We are trying everything to improve the team without
doing mistakes of the past, and trying to balance the urgency of the
moment," added Amorim.
"We know all of the aspects of our club in the moment,
but we are trying everything."
United's seventh defeat in 13 home league games saw them
slip behind Palace to 13th in the table.
Amorim has previously described his side as the "worst
in United's history" but tried to convey a more positive message despite
another poor performance.
"It was a hard day for team and fans," he said.
"We lose again and suffer two goals that we can avoid.
"It's normal for the fans to feel negative, it is a
hard season for them but football can change in certain moments. I will prepare
the next game and move forward. Better things will come."
