'You will be on your own!' President Ruto issues stern warning to CSs on corruption
President William
Ruto has issued a stern warning to his Cabinet, asserting that he will not
condone corruption within his government.
Ruto, speaking during
the conclusion of a three-day government retreat in Naivasha on Wednesday,
further asserted that if any member of his Cabinet is implicated in a
corruption scandal in any way, they will be solely responsible for their
alleged actions.
The President
further cautioned his Cabinet members against falling prey to fraudsters who
invoke his name when demanding for payments from the State.
"Each one of
you here has my number. Nobody should come to you threatening you or telling
you that the President has sent me...he is my brother...my cousin or my
relative. On corruption it will not be business as usual, we are going to be
firm," said Ruto.
President Ruto
likewise directed investigative agencies dealing with graft to carry out their
mandate diligently and ensure no stone is unturned to ensure prudence in the
utilization of public resources.
"There is no
room or space in my government to engage in corruption...we shall get hold of
you and you will face the consequences. When we fail, we fail together. When we
succeed we do it together. We must put our hands together," he said.
The President's
remarks come at a time when the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is
probing several government agencies, with prominent government officials under
scrutiny for alleged corruption and misuse of power.
The President's
warning also comes amid concerns billions of taxpayers' funds are being
siphoned into personal pockets, while mega development projects are inflated in
cost by government officials.
