Wishes from leaders, supporters pour in as Raila turns 79
A good number of leaders shared a collage of photos of the political premier from his younger days till present day, celebrating his contribution to the nation's democracy and the political transformations he has spearheaded over the years.
From "Jakom", "Baba", "Captain" and "Statesman", leaders branded Mr. Odinga befitting titles for being a trailblazer in championing change and astute leadership in Kenya.
NARC-Kenya party leader and Mr. Odinga's running mate during the 2022 General Election Martha Karua wrote on her X account "Happy Birthday kinara Wangu @RailaOdinga May you have many happy returns to serve."
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on the same platform expressed his admiration for Mr. Odinga, wishing him a prosperous life ahead.
"Happy Birthday Jakom. There are relatively few people like you who have dedicated their entire lives to the betterment of the country. I honour you. God bless you with abundant energy as well as a happy, healthy, and prosperous life."
Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o on his part wrote "May you live longer to blow many more candles. Thanking God for the opportunity He has given you to serve humankind. Happy birthday Captain!"
His Mombasa counterpart Abdulswamad Nassir said "We celebrate you for everything that you’ve done for this country and the role you have played in bringing us to where we are; happy birthday Baba! May God add more years to your life and life to your years!"
Moitalel Ole Kenta added:
"Happy Birthday to the esteemed Raila Odinga, a true statesman and the rightful President of the Republic of Kenya. Your dedication to democracy has left an indelible mark. Wishing you a day filled with joy, surrounded by the admiration of those you've inspired."
Senators also flocked the online platforms tendering their warm wishes led by Edwin Sifuna (Nairobi) who thanked Mr. Odinga for his admirable leadership.
"Sisi ni wale tulibarikiwa tukakujua na ukatujua. Ahsante kwa yote unazidi kulifanyia taifa letu. Mungu akulinde na akupe maisha marefu," he wrote.
The same was echoed by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang'.
Other leaders who joined the bandwagon include Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, Members of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi (Wesltands) and Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay).
The comment section has also been awash with wishes from Mr. Odinga's supporters.
In a communiqué from Philip Etale, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) communications director, Mr. Odinga will be celebrating his birthday in Malindi, Kilifi county, at the residence of former Mombasa Governor Hasan Joho.
the opposition leader said the cake-cutting ceremony will signify Kenyans' demand for tax cuts which have increased the cost of living.
Birthday ceremonies have been organised in various parts of the country, where his supporters will celebrate the veteran politician.
All cakes are expected to be cut at 3pm.
